My life with Naturopathic Medicine

Why did I choose Naturopathic Medicine?

I always knew I wanted a career in medicine.  I was fascinated with the science behind the human body, and I liked the idea of working with people individually. In medicine, nothing is ever dull or slow moving. I get to constantly learn and expand my scope while meeting and helping new people every day. When choosing a career, I didn’t want to limit myself. I wanted something that was evolving and had future potential for growth.  I chose Naturopathic Medicine specifically when I started to learn about alternatives to medical school. I worked for an ND and saw how creative and rewarding a career as a naturopath can be. I think really good health care involves collaboration within a multitude of disciplines. Working in a multi-discipline clinic like gesund, helps my patients get a wide approach to their treatment goals. We use herbs and nutrition in similar ways medical doctors use pharmaceuticals. We also do acupuncture for everything from chronic pain to fertility care. One of the best aspects of naturopathic medicine is that we have the privilege of spending the time to talk with and counsel our patients to help support their mental health. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what we can do. I find it so exciting!

What do I like most about Naturopathic Medicine?

The part I enjoy most about my work is being able to watch the progression of someone’s care from when they walk in to see me for the first time to a few visits later. I can already see how they are changing. Whether it is an increased awareness of their body or a reduction in the symptoms they were experiencing, it really amazes me how much naturopathic medicine really helps. Seeing the positive change in my patients is really the best part of what I do.

What are my plans and dreams?

Aside from owning a small surf and coffee house somewhere in the Caribbean, my future plans and dreams revolve around growing a practice here that is centered on strong connections with my patients. I want to be known in the community as someone who can help people feel better, who they can trust, and who they like coming to see when they need it. I really just want to work with people and teach them about how cool the human body is, eliminate the fear around health, and learn how to become involved in the process.
