Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

Whether you are suffering from back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sports-related injuries or are looking for the perfect relaxation method to help you relieve stress, anxiety or chronic headaches, massage therapy is often regarded as one of the most effective treatment alternatives.

Swedish/Relaxation Massage

Swedish/Relaxation Massage is a smooth, flowing style that promotes general relaxation, improves circulation and range of movement and relieves muscular tension.

Massage Therapy has also many specific medical uses.

Deep Tissue Massage

The main purpose of Deep Tissue Massage Therapy is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.

Deep Tissue Massage treatments shorten recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable.

Deep Tissue Massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy uses essential oils from plants to heal, alleviate pain and regulate mood. Essential oils are volatile, highly concentrated plant extracts, derived from leaves, bark, roots, seeds resins and flowers.

In Aromatherapy Massage, essential oils are mixed with a carrier oil. We use up to five oils in a mixture, and choose the oils based on your needs be it relaxation, soothing for achy muscles or stimulating.

Therapeutic Massage with Integrative Cupping Therapy

Delve into the healing world of our Therapeutic Massage with Integrative Cupping Therapy, a treatment designed for those seeking both relief and restoration. This therapy synergizes the targeted, relieving techniques of professional massage with the medically acknowledged benefits of cupping.

Our licensed therapists apply expert massage methods to reduce muscular tension and enhance tissue mobility, complemented by the application of cupping, which uses controlled suction to promote increased blood circulation, facilitate lymphatic drainage, and support the body’s natural healing processes.

This treatment is particularly effective for patients recovering from injuries, experiencing chronic pain, or managing conditions like fibromyalgia and arthritis. By addressing both superficial and deep tissue layers, our approach not only eases discomfort but also contributes to overall health improvement and stress reduction, underlined by a foundation in modern medical understanding.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage Therapy involves the application of water-heated basalt stones of varying sizes to key points on the body, giving a deep massage and creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The direct heat relaxes muscles, allowing manipulation of a greater intensity than with regular massage. The stones we use at gesund were hand selected from the Lake Superior.

Hot stones expand the blood vessels, pushing blood and unwanted waste materials through the body. This has a sedative effect on the nervous system and ensures that every cell in the body receives more oxygen and nutrients while at the same time waste material is removed more effectively through the corresponding increase in lymph flow.

Hot Stone Massage is useful in treating the following symptoms:

  • Muscular aches, pains, sprains and strains
  • Poor circulation
  • Rheumatic and arthritic conditions
  • Fibromyalgia
  • MS
  • Back pain
  • Stress, anxiety and tension
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

Hot Stone Massage Therapy makes you feel deeply relaxed, allowing you to let go of all the stress that is held within your body. It is really an amazing experience.

Relaxation massage and deep tissue massage are two distinct types of massage therapy that serve different purposes and focus on different aspects of the body. Here are the key differences between them:

  1. Pressure and Intensity:

    • Relaxation Massage: This type of massage, also known as Swedish massage, typically uses light to moderate pressure. The primary goal is to induce relaxation, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being. It involves long, flowing strokes, kneading, gentle stretching, and the use of oils or lotions to create a soothing and calming experience.

    • Deep Tissue Massage: Deep tissue massage, on the other hand, involves the use of firm to deep pressure techniques. It targets the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues to address specific issues such as chronic pain, muscle tension, and adhesions. Deep tissue massage can be intense and may involve the therapist using their elbows, knuckles, or even their forearms to apply more pressure.

  2. Goals and Benefits:

    • Relaxation Massage: The primary goal of relaxation massage is to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve overall circulation. It can help relieve minor muscle tension and leave the client feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. This type of massage is ideal for those seeking stress relief and relaxation.

    • Deep Tissue Massage: Deep tissue massage is designed to target specific areas of tension and pain in the body. It can be effective in alleviating chronic muscle pain, improving posture, and addressing issues like muscle knots and scar tissue. It’s often recommended for individuals with chronic pain conditions or specific muscle problems.

  3. Techniques Used:

    • Relaxation Massage: Techniques commonly used in relaxation massage include effleurage (long, sweeping strokes), petrissage (kneading and squeezing), friction (rubbing), and gentle stretching.

    • Deep Tissue Massage: Deep tissue massage involves techniques like deep pressure, cross-fiber friction, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy. These techniques are aimed at breaking up adhesions and releasing tension in the deeper muscle layers.

  4. Pain Sensation:

    • Relaxation Massage: Relaxation massage should not cause pain or discomfort. It should be a gentle and soothing experience.

    • Deep Tissue Massage: Deep tissue massage may cause some discomfort or temporary soreness, especially if there are areas of significant tension or adhesions. It’s important to communicate with the therapist to ensure the pressure is within your comfort level.

  5. Applicability:

    • Relaxation Massage: Relaxation massage is suitable for a wide range of individuals, including those who simply want to de-stress and relax.

    • Deep Tissue Massage: Deep tissue massage is best suited for those with specific muscular issues, chronic pain, or athletes who require deep muscle work to improve performance and recovery.

It’s important to communicate your preferences and any specific issues or concerns with your massage therapist, so they can tailor the massage to your needs and provide the most appropriate treatment for you. Additionally, both relaxation and deep tissue massages have their own unique benefits, and the choice between them depends on your personal goals and comfort level with pressure.

The cost difference reflects additional preparation and cleanup for the cupping equipment, ensuring a safe and sanitized experience. We prioritize your well-being and fairly compensate our therapists for the extra time involved, hence the slightly higher rate.

Massage with cupping is generally considered safe when performed by a trained professional. However, like any treatment, there are potential risks and side effects. These may include:

  • Bruising and Discomfort: The most common side effect is bruising at the cupping sites. While these marks are not usually painful, they can be unsightly and may take several days to weeks to fade.
  • Mild Soreness: Some individuals may experience mild soreness or tenderness in the areas where the cups were applied, similar to the sensation felt after a deep tissue massage.
  • Skin Irritation: In rare cases, skin irritation or allergic reactions to cupping materials like the cups or lubricants used can occur.
  • Temporary Skin Changes: Redness or changes in skin pigmentation may occur at the cupping site but typically resolve quickly.
  • Infection Risk: There is a small risk of infection, particularly if the skin is broken during the treatment. Sterile equipment and proper hygiene practices by the therapist can minimize this risk.

It’s important to discuss your health history with your therapist before undergoing cupping therapy, especially if you have skin conditions, blood disorders, or are pregnant. Always ensure that you are receiving treatment from a qualified and experienced professional.
