Detoxification with a difference
Many people struggle with excessive weight and sluggish metabolism all their lives and find that as they age they gradually gain more weight. The key to this problem is detoxification, particularly of the Liver, Kidney and Intestinal system or bowel. These are the powerhouses of our metabolism. The liver is the major fat burning organ of the body; following a liver cleansing detoxification program will kick start your metabolism and increase the fat burning power. A well functioning liver and bowel leads to a well functioning healthy body.
There are many detoxification programs in the marketplace. gesund sets itself apart by providing a program that nourishes your body, while it safely and effectively cleanses. Our program not only detoxifies and nourishes the liver but unlike other programs also works on the body’s other systems of elimination and metabolism the bowel (intestinal system) and kidneys.
A common detoxification program people undertake involves an extended period of not eating food combined with drinking horrible concoctions of olive oil, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. Who would want to do that? Not only does this process put your body into starvation mode slowing metabolism it also may inhibit the immune system. The program encourages bowel elimination by purposefully irritating your bowel lining, which may have long term problems such as leaky guy syndrome (see below). In addition it removes the healthy gut bacteria from your intestines, wiping out the first line of defence against infection and sickness. After a starvation program people often suffer bloating, constipation and/or acid reflux (heart burn) as the body re-learns to digest food. Furthermore, any weight you may have lost on the program will likely be regained and more as the body attempts to prepare for future periods of starvation by taking as many calories as possible and storing them as fat to be used later when needed.
The gesund detoxification program is an eating program. You will be eating healthy and nutritious food throughout. The foods you will eat on the gesund detoxification plan will support your healthy metabolism. There is no counting of calories or weighing of portions while following the plan. To a large extent it is not so much how much you eat as what you eat. On this plan you will eat delicious liver and bowel friendly foods while avoiding foods that lead to slow and sluggish metabolism. While following the dietary tips and recipes provided your metabolism will improve and you will learn dietary ideas to help continue the benefits for months to come after completing the program.
The gesund detoxification program is a four week program combining nourishing eating and supplementation to encourage a healthy liver, kidney and bowel. The program allows you to eat throughout, there are no periods of starvation, and you will be allowed to eat as much as you want of the allowed foods during all parts of the plan.
In addition, to the dietary and supplementation components of the program you will be supported throughout the program by a Naturopathic Doctor and may add up to six constitutional hydrotherapy treatments. Constitutional Hydrotherapy is beneficial as a standalone treatment for many conditions including the symptoms of a sluggish liver, however when used in concert with the dietary and supplement components of the detoxification it greatly enhances the effects of the program as a whole.
Without our consent, we are exposed to a wide variety of noxious agents triggering untold amounts of needless chronic suffering. Although your body has a complex and effective systems to process and eliminate toxins, it can become overburdened. Additionally, your body can produce internal toxins due to poor nutrition or malfunctioning digestive systems. Together, external environmental toxins and internal toxins can overtax your body’s built-in defences and cause, or contribute to, serious health issues.
Symptoms of decreased liver function vary from quite subtle to major incapacitating symptoms. Liver dysfunction may even be present when all blood tests come back as “normal”, this is because standard blood tests look for damage of the liver rather than how well the liver is functioning. Common symptoms of liver dysfunction are poor digestion, abdominal bloating and nausea (especially after eating fatty foods), weight gain (particularly around the abdomen) and constipation. A sluggish liver can also lead to unpleasant mood changes, depression and a “foggy brain” as a result of toxic metabolites finding their way into circulation and reaching the brain. Headaches including migraines may also be related to liver function, to make matters worse people generally take over the counter pain killers for this which only exacerbates the problem because the is required to break down all drugs.
To effectively detoxify toxins, the body goes through a series of processes that must occur in sequence. While detoxifying, it is important to support the body with adequate levels of key vitamins, minerals, amino acids, phytochemicals, and dietary fibre. The Gesund Detoxification Program completely supports all the steps involved in the body’s natural detoxification process, at the same time, nourishing and supporting the body’s systems.
This is done through the use of specially-developed therapeutic food products and botanical teas. After completing the program most people enjoy greater energy, enhanced well-being, and healthy weight management.
It is an “extreme” environment within your stomach and intestines. In addition to powerful stomach acids and enzyme actions, the small intestine and colon can be under a heavy burden of toxic stress, especially from internally-derived toxins (i.e., endotoxins). These latter toxins can be the by-products of fermentation or putrifaction, and can be one of the causes triggering a breakdown in the leak-proof lining of the gut, stimulating an abnormal inflammatory and immune reaction. This is called “intestinal permeability” or “leaky gut” and it can be very detrimental to several organs such as the liver and the brain by increasing the toxic load on the body.
The gastrointestinal (GI) lining is the largest mucosal surface in the body, and the greatest interface the body has with the substances from the external environment. This lining’s mucus barrier is semipermeable to absorb nutrients from food, but it must also protect us from pathogenic (destructive) microbes. This intestinal barrier must balance these two functions: blocking out invaders, while allowing active and passive transport of nutrients. A healthy, intact intestinal barrier is absolutely critical for good health and disease prevention.’
The lining of the intestines is only the thickness of one layer of cells and can be easily damaged. If stress on these delicate cells is too intense, gaps can form between the cells allowing internal toxins and undigested food material to be partially absorbed. These latter agents are in turn targeted by antibodies, forming immune complexes which can be carried into the bloodstream where they can trigger inflammation and immune dysfunction in a number of organ systems. If there are a lot of these gaps, you will experience what is called increased intestinal permeability or “leaky gut syndrome”. Among the suspected causes of leaky gut are nutritional deficiencies, stress, food allergies and intolerances, dysbiosis (reduction in the healthy intestinal flora), prescription medications, plus any source of increased inflammation, noxious environmental toxins, and bacterial and fungal organisms (i.e., E. coli or Candida albicans).

To support our overall well-being it is often recommend that every person undergo an effective detoxification program on a regular basis to detoxify cells and organs and to support overall good health. For vibrant health, digestive support and increased energy, revitalize yourself by following the Gesund Detoxification Program once every six to twelve months.
